Getting to the Latrobe Valley

travellingontheprinceshwy

The Latrobe Valley is between two grand mountain ranges, the Strezlecki’s and Great Alpine Range. Historically getting here was slow and uncomfortable aboard cart pulled by a bullock team. Today transport so much simpler.

From Melbourne Airport (for years we called it Tullamarine Airport)

GippyShuttle based in Gippsland (the Latrobe Valley is in Gippsland) do twice daily trips to Melbourne Airport (MEL)

Driving to the Latrobe Valley

From Melbourne – Monash Freeway (M1) turns into Princes Freeway (M1). The first town is Moe. (When you’re on the highway you’ll pass through the Haunted Hills if you stay on the highway past the first Moe exit.)

If you’re driving from Sydney (or Lakes Entrance) – Monaro Highway (B23)/ Princes Highway (A1) the first Latrobe Valley town is Traralgon.

If you’re coming from the Leongatha take the Strzelecki Highway to Morwell

Yarram to Traralgon is through the Hyland Highway

Public Transport (Train)

Vline run the train between Melbourne CBD and the Latrobe Valley (Bairnsdale Line/Traralgon Line).
