I like to focus on the people because the town creates commonality between the people,
building relationships through the need for products, services and industry.

The people make the town.

Hear about the Doctor, nurse and boilermaker. The welfare workers, fundraisers and backbone of Yallourn. See Yallourn through the eyes of the people.

Yallourn is a ghost town

Lookouts

There are lookouts over the open-cut which used to have the town.

A lookout is on De Campo Road, Yallourn VIC and another on Coach Road, Yallourn VIC this is out the back of the Yallourn Golf Course.

From the lookouts, you’ll see the open cut, Yallourn W Power Station.

Museum and artefacts

A really great resource to understand what the town looked like and see parts that were saved are at the Yallourn North History Society on 3rd Street, Yallourn North.

The gates to the SEC are in the Haunted Hills at the Yallourn Cemetery.

Many other towns have houses that were once in Yallourn. Like the one, I grew up in.

When Haunted Hills looks at crimes, it is an interesting reflection on the past, the values, timeliness, and sense of justice. While patrons are able to play judge and jury we are not re-adjudicating these crimes
most of them occurred too long ago to be appropriate however, these discussions create an interesting contrast of values. The offences covered reflect the rural nature of our towns, shedding light on some of the people we don’t usually talk about and what is and was considered criminal.
